Lost Your Old Class Photo? Here’s How You May Still Find It…

Find People Who May Own a Copy

Former classmates are often your best chance of finding the photograph. Search Facebook for the school name, followed by words such as “memories,” “former pupils,” “reunion,” or the decade you attended. Local community and history groups can also be surprisingly helpful.

Post a clear request. Mention the school, town, approximate year, teacher, and class. You might write: “I am looking for a class photograph from St Andrew’s School, around 1976, with Mrs Taylor.” That gives people enough information to recognise the picture. Avoid sharing your full birth date, old address, or other private details.

You do not need to find everyone. One former classmate may still know several others, or may have inherited a box of photographs from a parent. Siblings can be useful too, especially if several children from one family attended the same school. When someone responds, ask whether they can scan or photograph the image clearly. If classmates cannot help, the next step is to contact the people who may have kept official copies.
