13 Simple Paint Hacks That Make Painting Your Home So Much Easier

Protect Your Bathroom With A Simple Trash Bag

Bathrooms can be especially annoying to paint because there are so many fixtures packed into a relatively small space. And then there's the toilet. You could spend a considerable amount of time carefully taping around the tank, seat, and other surfaces before you start painting. Or, if you're looking for a quicker way to protect it, reach for a large trash bag.

Place the bag over the toilet tank and seat, covering as much of the exposed surface as possible. The goal is simply to create a barrier between the fixture and the paint you're working with. That way, if your roller sends a few tiny splatters in the wrong direction, they're much more likely to land on the disposable plastic instead of the toilet. It's particularly handy when you're painting around the toilet or working overhead.

You still need to protect floors, counters, and other surfaces properly, of course. But for the toilet itself, a large trash bag can be a much faster solution than trying to cover every little section with painter's tape. And when you're finished? You can simply remove the bag, throw it away, and move on. Sometimes the best painting hacks are the ones that make cleanup almost boring.
