He carried the first filled bag to the prepared area and placed it with the zipper tucked underneath. Using both hands, he gently pressed and shook the bag until the concrete spread toward the corners. The top remained slightly rounded rather than completely flat.
A second bag was placed nearby, followed by a third. He left a narrow gap between them and adjusted their angles while the concrete was still soft. Soon, the bare soil was covered with an irregular arrangement of sealed bags. Some sat close together, while others were turned slightly to follow the curve of the garden.
He frequently stepped back to inspect the layout. This was not careless placement. Every gap, angle, and rounded edge seemed to matter. If you enjoy garden projects but dislike designs that look overly perfect, you may appreciate this approach. The slight variations gave the arrangement a natural character. Even so, it was still difficult to imagine why anyone would leave dozens of concrete-filled plastic bags lying across the yard. He made a few final adjustments, smoothed several bulges, and prepared to add one more unexpected detail.
