The Bedroom and Bathroom
Tucked privately into the rear curve of the structure lie the sleeping quarters and a remarkably compact bathroom module. The bedroom features an elevated double platform bed, accessible by a set of storage steps that hold Julian’s extensive collection of historical texts. The bed itself is nestled directly against the curved staves, giving the sensation of sleeping securely inside a giant, protective wooden cocoon.
Beneath the sleeping platform, Julian engineered a clever wardrobe system that pulls out on heavy-duty tracks, maximizing every square inch of the vat’s deep curvature. A small window positioned perfectly at pillow height allows the morning sun to wake the occupant naturally, offering views of the mist rising off the nearby river. The entire sleeping alcove is lined with soft wool textiles, enhancing the acoustic dampening of the circular room.
Adjacent to the bed, a hidden pocket door slides open to reveal a surprisingly luxurious, micro-sized wet room. The bathroom features a water-saving composting toilet and a rain shower lined with locally sourced slate tiles that complement the dark oak staves. A small ventilation system prevents moisture from impacting the historic timber, ensuring this unique whisky-vat home will endure beautifully for decades to come.
