This 91-Year-Old Lady's Home Looks Normal From the Outside – The Inside Will Blow You Away

Step back into 1962

Walking into Dorothy's living room is like walking into 1962. The walls still have the wallpaper she picked out that year, pale pink with small gold and grey leaves. The wall-to-wall carpet is a soft rose color. Under the picture window stands a long, low sofa in mint green, and it is still covered in the clear plastic it came with. "We put the plastic on the day it was delivered," Dorothy says. "Earl said we'd take it off for a special occasion. I guess one never came."

Along the other wall is a long walnut hi-fi cabinet with a record player under the lid, and above it hangs a gold sunburst mirror. There are two lamps with pleated pink shades, a glass bowl of hard candy on the coffee table, and a framed wedding photo on the wall. Nothing is faded or broken. There is no dust. The rose carpet still shows the fresh stripes of the vacuum cleaner. "We bought good things once and took care of them," Dorothy says. "That's how we were raised."

Katie shared her photos online that evening. By the next morning, thousands of strangers had passed them on, and many asked the same thing: please, whoever buys it, don't change it. Tyler says several people called him just to ask if the plastic comes with the sofa. But the living room is not even the best part. Wait until you see Dorothy's kitchen and her bathroom on the next page.
