An Old Cabin With a New Personality
From outside, the house still carries the long, straightforward shape of the single-wide cabin it once was. At 420 square feet, it is broader and longer than many tiny homes, yet it sits lightly in its semi-rural setting. The rebuilt shell does not pretend to be brand-new. Different materials meet visibly, giving the exterior the relaxed, assembled-over-time character that earned the home its hodgepodge nickname.
That mixture is practical as well as playful. Kerry and Will renovated an existing structure instead of starting again, then relied heavily on reclaimed and recycled building supplies. The approach kept usable materials out of the waste stream and helped stretch a limited budget. It also freed them from chasing a polished showroom finish. If one board looked different from the next, it simply became another part of the design.
The setting completes the picture. Gardens and small ponds surround the home, while a larger dam draws birds and other wildlife. The narrow cabin seems tucked into the land, with windows and outdoor spaces turned toward the view. Its exterior offers an honest preview of the home: useful, unconventional, welcoming, and filled with materials that lived elsewhere before finding their new purpose here.
