Hikers Find House Built Into Hillside — Then They Take a Look Inside

Ben noticed the glint first. He and Laura had been walking for four hours, following a narrow trail through a valley where the hills rose steeply on either side. Afternoon light flashed from something halfway up the slope. At first, Ben thought it was a discarded bottle. Then the reflection moved as they changed position. It was too large, too straight, and far too deliberate to belong there.

They climbed a little higher, staying on the marked path. The object became clearer. A strip of glass sat flush with the hillside, framed by dark timber and surrounded by grass. A few yards away was a narrow door set into stone. There was no roofline, no chimney in sight, and no driveway cutting through the valley. Laura stared at the slope. It looked less like a building than a hill that had somehow grown windows.

Then Ben spotted another detail. A metal vent poked through the grass above them. Below it, a drainage channel disappeared beneath a bank of stones. Suddenly, the strange shapes made sense. This was not an old ruin or forgotten bunker. Someone had built a house here, and most of it seemed to be inside the hill.
