There was still one final challenge. Everyone needs somewhere to shower, get ready in the morning and take care of everyday chores. So the family created a compact bathroom that follows the same philosophy as every other part of the cabin. A small shower, toilet and wall-mounted sink fit neatly into the available space, while storage has been added wherever possible. The family also uses compact appliances and vertical storage to keep laundry and household essentials from taking over the living areas.
Nothing inside the cabin is particularly large. But that's exactly what makes the arrangement work. The family hasn't tried to squeeze a conventional house into 290 square feet. They've designed a home around the way they actually live. There is a place to cook, eat, relax, sleep, shower and spend time together. And then there's the biggest advantage of all. Step outside and the family is immediately surrounded by towering trees, ferns and the peaceful atmosphere of the forest.
The cabin may be tiny compared with most family homes, but its surroundings provide something money can't easily recreate. From the outside, it's a little wooden cabin hidden among the trees. Inside, however, those 290 square feet have become a complete family home — and for this family, that's more than enough.
