At first glance, there isn't much exciting about a long piece of PVC pipe. It's the kind of material you'd normally expect to find in a plumbing project, not something you'd want sitting in your living room. But with a little wood, some paint and a few inexpensive lights, it can become something surprisingly impressive.
For this project, the starting point was a 10-foot length of 3-inch ABS pipe. Once it was brought home, the pipe was cut down into manageable sections and prepared for its new purpose. The goal wasn't to hide the pipe completely. Instead, it would become the central part of a decorative light, with a wooden frame built around it and LED lights installed inside.
What makes the project especially interesting is how ordinary the materials are. Nothing begins as an expensive piece of home decor. It's simply a combination of hardware-store materials and a little creativity. And by the time the lights are switched on, it's almost impossible to recognize the humble pipe that started the whole thing.
