The boy from Pennsylvania loves science and computer programming

David Balogun* becomes one of the youngest ever high school graduates. After he took remote classes, he received a diploma from Reach cyber charter school in Harrisburg. David told WGAL that he “… wants to be an astrophysicist, and I want to study black holes and supernovas.”

Extraordinary intellect

Nine-year-old David Balogun from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania became one of the youngest ever high school graduates when he received a diploma from Reach cyber charter school. David is a member of Mensa, a high intelligence quotient society and even though his parents both have academic degrees, it was challenging for them to raise a kid with an intellect like David’s. David’s mother, Ronya, told WGAL: “I had to get outside of the box. Playing pillow fights when you’re not supposed to, throwing the balls in the house. He’s a nine-year-old with the brain that has the capacity to understand and comprehend a lot of concepts beyond his years and sometimes beyond my understanding.”

College

And David already knows what he is going to do now that he graduated high school. “I want to be an astrophysicist, and I want to study black holes and supernovas.” David told WGAL. Him and his family have been researching colleges and universities and David already finished one semester at Bucks county community college. But his father, Henry, is not going to send him off to college just yet. He told the local news channel: “Am I going to throw my nine-year-old into Harvard while I’m living in [Pennsylvania]? No.”

Impressive

His teachers at high school were impressed and inspired by the nine-year-old. One of his teachers told the television station: “David was an inspirational kid, definitely one who changes the way you think about teaching.” And his favorite teachers helped David reach his achievement. According to the boy, his teachers kept motivating him and kept pushing him to keep going.

When he is not studying black holes and supernovas, David loves to play sports, the piano and is trying to get a black belt in martial arts.
