Pope Francis’ humble Vatican suite | $free

You might think that the head of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, lives in a massive, luxurious palace. But nothing is further from the truth. Although historically, the Pope has always lived in the Papal Apartments in the Vatican, the current Pope has chosen a different place to rest his head. He has chosen to live in a humble apartment/suite in the Domus Sanctae Marthae, the guesthouse built in 1996 to house cardinals during a conclave. Francis is the first pope in 110 years not to live in the papal apartments on the third floor of the Apostolic Palace.

He has also chosen not to follow another tradition, by not moving into the Papal summer abode, the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo. Pope Francis has opened this location for the public, turning it into a museum. It seems like Pope Francis doesn’t care much for luxury.
